How to Write Content That Enhances SEO

One of the most fundamental ways to drive links to your site is by creating quality content; it follows the webmasters favourite line 'content is king'. This statement is true but only to a certain degree as no one is going to link to your quality content unless they know it's there.

So what do we really need to do to ensure quality content is pulling in the links we deserve? One of the first things you need to ensure is that your content is keyword focused; use keywords that fully describe what you are writing about. Use the keywords in your heading, title tag and throughout the body of your page.

The next thing you need to ensure is that your content is link worthy, this means many different things but a few of the common factors are that it is correct, up to date and unique. Never simply re-write what you have read on every other blog out there, add your own thoughts and opinions, look for new angles to come at the subject from. Maybe try and create controversy, disagree with common opinion and then back up your argument with clear facts.

How you structure your content will have a huge impact on how people engage with it and you need the visitor to engage with it if you want to give yourself a chance of link back. Use images, diagrams and charts to make your point. Keep your paragraphs short and use titles to break your content up. This makes it a more pleasant user experience and will greatly increase the chances of bringing you links.

There are only certain groups of people that actively link back to sites on the web; these are the tech savvy types, bloggers and other types of webmasters. Your content needs to appeal to these groups otherwise you are wasting your time putting your time and effort into it. Create an article section of your site or use a blog effectively to blog about different areas relevant to your topic. Once you have done this use social media to put your content in front of real visitors. Social sites such as Digg, Stumble and Twitter will help you interact with others in your community and get valued feedback on the content you have created. As your social media profile grows so will visitors back to your site. The more visitors you get the more chance you have of acquiring those al important links.
