How to Promote Your Blog Using Facebook

1. Step 1

   Sign up for a Facebook account. It’s easy and safe, and you decide how much information or photos (if any) to share. Be sure to input your real name so old Friends can actually find you. Add your blog address as your web site.

2. Step 2

   Start finding Friends. Options include: having Facebook tap into your e-mail account to send people of your choice and invitation to join Facebook; having Facebook check your e-mail account to see who may already be on Facebook who you might know; searching by your high school; searching by your college; searching by a company where you work now or where you used to work.

3. Step 3

   Once you have a few friends, you can check out THEIR Friends to see if you know anyone in common that you may want to invite as a Friend of yours.

4. Step 4

   To drive traffic to your profile, fill in the Status updates (e.g., “Kerrie is: updating TheKerrieShow.blogspot.com” or “Kerrie is working on a blog post about loving Taco Bueno”). Once people are at your profile, they can check out your web site address (which is your blog). You can also put the link for your blog in the Status Update.

5. Step 5

   Put your Christmas letter and photo on your blog and send the link to all your Facebook friends using your Inbox. I did this because I was lazy, not really trying to promote my blog. I also did it because I don’t have e-mail addresses for all my Facebook friends but still wanted to connect. That day I got double the normal amount of traffic and hopefully some new fans. Consider sending out a mid-year (or monthly) family update (or just an update on what’s going on with your professional blog) in the same manner.

6. Step 6

   You can post the first part of a blog entry in your Notes on your profile page, then have the reader go to your blog for the rest of the post.

7. Step 7

   Join Facebook groups relevant to what you blog about and contribute regularly.
